  13.           WHAT IS clX ?
  14.           =============
  15.  
  16.           If  you write or edit long documents  with numbered paragraphs,
  17.           containing   internal  references,   clX,  the   Clause   Cross
  18.           Referencer can help you.  
  19.  
  20.           clX will analyse a document, and:
  21.  
  22.                identify clause or paragraph numbers;
  23.  
  24.                produce a  report listing references  in the  text to each
  25.                paragraph;
  26.  
  27.                attempt to identify references to non-existent clauses. 
  28.  
  29.           This is not the same  as the cross referencing feature  in many
  30.           popular word  processing programs:   they make you  responsible
  31.           for identifying and marking each textual reference.   clX finds
  32.           references  for itself, by analysing the text of your document.
  33.  
  34.           clX  has  two  main  benefits:    it  will  save  time locating
  35.           references  to paragraphs,  and  it  will reduce  the  risk  of
  36.           professional  error.    clX  is  natural   language  processing
  37.           software  designed   for  the   legal  profession,   engineers,
  38.           consultants and many  others.

  40.           A sample fragment from a typical clX report is set out below.

  43.                     Clause '16.2.' has 9 references:

  48.           In the above fragment,  you are given a list of  clause numbers
  49.           which all contain references  to a clause 16.2.  Clause 16.3(f)
  50.           is  also shown  with a '2'  in parentheses,  indicating that it
  51.           contains  two references  to 16.2.    (Note that  all subclause
  52.           numbers are 'normalised', with dots replacing parentheses.)

  54.           clX  will produce  an  item like  the  above fragment  for each
  55.           clause which has references.

  57.           clX  reads  documents  in  Microsoft  Word   format,  including
  58.           Microsoft  Word for Windows  documents, (although only as a DOS

  66.           application).   clX can  also be  supplied in  a version  which
  67.           supports  Word  Perfect.    Installation  instructions  will be
  68.           found in the manual, CLXMAN.TXT.  (The .exe files for clX  are:
  69.           clx.exe, clxovl1.exe, clxovl2.exe, and clxovl3.exe.)

  72.           LICENSING
  73.           =========

  75.           You may use  clX for a free 30  day trial period.  During  that
  76.           period, you are advised to carefully  evaluate its capabilities
  77.           against  your particular  drafting style.   If  you continue to
  78.           use clX  after the  30 day  trial period, you  are required  to
  79.           purchase a license.

  81.           The  license  fee for  clX  is  $US  125.00  per user,  or  its
  82.           equivalent amount in another currency.   This includes shipping
  83.           costs  to anywhere  in  the world.    Licensing details  may be
  84.           found  in the  accompanying file,  "CLXREGIS.TXT".   There  are
  85.           volume  discounts  -   refer  to  the file  "CLXREGIS.TXT"  for
  86.           details.

  88.           With a license you will receive an up to date  copy of clX, and
  89.           also future updates to clX as they appear.

  91.           The license fee also includes  12 months free maintenance:   if
  92.           you find  something you think is  wrong in  the output produced
  93.           by  clX, we  will examine it  and try  to rectify  the problem.
  94.           You must  send  the problem  document  to  us on  diskette,  in
  95.           Nicrosoft Word format.   We don't guarantee a solution, but all
  96.           reasonable efforts will be made.

  98.           IMPORTANT CAUTION

  101.           You must  evaluate clX carefully  against your drafting  style.
  102.           Because  of  ambiguities  and  irregularities  in  the  English
  103.           language, and  the range of drafting  styles which  may be used
  104.           by  authors, the  extraction  of relevant  data  by clX  is not
  105.           guaranteed to  be complete, or accurate.   We  do not guarantee
  106.           that any particular failing will be rectified.
